Hanging Rock
Nature — Fueling the soul. With state parks opening in North Carolina, a getaway was needed. Bringing my adventure buddy, I took her to a place I used to visit often. Say hello to Hanging Rock State Park in Danbury, NC (Stokes County).
Hanging Rock was created in 1936 with help from the CCC with just over 3,000 acres and has grown to over 8,000 acres. It is one of 41 North Carolina State Parks and is just 30 miles north of Winston Salem. A common nickname for this park is the mountains away from the mountains as it is in the Sauratown Mountain Range, the most easterly mountain range in NC.
We planned to do the Indian Creek Trail so we could see a couple different waterfalls. I have been a handful of times here and find this as one of my favorite places in NC to visit. I have even hiked in with The Red Chair here what seems forever ago now. On the trail we would see two waterfalls and get a beautiful overlook of the Saurtown Mountain Range.
Quinn’s face lit up in joy when she saw Hidden Falls for the first time. She really got into this one and finding all different places to explore around the water. Hidden Falls does have that hidden feeling when you are here. Also, thank goodness for the bug spray!
As we continued our hike to Window Falls, we took in views from the rocks above the falls. We could hear the water streaming around us. At the top we took some time to eat a snack and snap some photos with this incredible view of the mountain range. Also during our snack, Quinn tried some cashews and confirmed she really liked them.
As we reached Window Falls, Quinn really liked playing with the water and rocks. You could see how happy she was in her eyes as she was looking around to see everything. I could see us staying here for a while. But when we wrapped up this section of the trail we headed back.
It was really easy to get lost here. We had a great time exploring, soaking in the incredible weather and just being outside. A nice escape topped off with a giggled filled lunch in the back of the truck. Looking forward to coming back with my adventure bear!
